Find Your Moon Sign

In Vedic astrology, the position of the Moon is considered paramount, holding greater significance than the Sun. Enter your date, time, and place of birth to calculate your Moon sign using the sidereal system (Lahiri Ayanamsha).

What Is the Moon Sign?

The Moon sign (Chandra Rasi) is the zodiac sign where the Moon was positioned at the exact moment of your birth. In Vedic astrology, it serves as the baseline for interpreting mental patterns, emotional foundations, and habitual daily responses, receiving greater emphasis than the Sun sign. Because compatibility and life timing are also evaluated relative to the Moon's placement, knowing your Moon sign is the natural starting point.

Why It Differs from Western Astrology

Western astrology uses the Tropical zodiac based on the vernal equinox, whereas Vedic astrology uses the Sidereal zodiac based on the observable positions of the fixed stars. Because the difference between the two systems (Ayanamsha) is currently about 24 degrees, it is common for your sign to fall one sign earlier in Vedic astrology compared to your Western chart. If your sign differs from what you are used to seeing in magazines or horoscopes, it is simply due to this difference in calculation systems.

Information Required for Calculation

The Moon takes roughly two and a half days to transit through a single sign, so your date of birth is often sufficient to determine it. However, if you were born near the boundary between two signs, your birth time can alter the result. If your exact birth time is unknown, it will be calculated using 12:00 PM. Providing your city or municipality also helps refine the calculation by determining the precise local time and coordinates.
