Career, job changes and wealth in Vedic astrology

Vedic astrology deals not only with character but with "which field brings out your strength" and "when moving is likely to go with the current". Work and money are handled by different houses, and each is read in a different place.

Suitable work is read from the 10th house

The 10th house shows occupation and social standing. Which sign falls there, where its ruler is placed, and which planets influence it: this outlines the kind of work that suits you. If Mercury is strongly involved, work with words and information; Mars, a setting that calls for decision and action; Saturn, work built up slowly over time. The nature of the planet maps onto the field. The D10 (Dashamsha) divisional chart goes further, showing which position within a profession suits you: hands-on, coordinating, or independent.

Income is read from the 2nd and 11th houses

Suitable work and wealth are not the same thing. The 2nd house shows savings and assets that stay with you; the 11th shows income and the people who bring it. A strong 10th house with a weak 2nd reads as being valued but finding it hard to hold on to money, and the reverse also occurs. Jupiter's involvement points to growth; Saturn's to something slower but stable. What is shown is not an amount but the pattern of how money comes in and how it stays.

Periods favourable for a career change

For career decisions, again, the Dasha is used. Entering the period of a planet connected to the 10th house or its ruler makes the work environment more likely to move. Saturn's transit is also treated as a turning point: when Saturn touches the 10th house or the ascendant, the nature of your responsibilities tends to change or your way of working comes under review. Conversely, making a large move when there is no sign of change can, in the traditional view, yield little for the effort.

Things to keep in mind

The birth chart shows tendencies; it does not name a profession. The same placement produces countless different jobs depending on the era and the environment. It also does not guarantee income or investment results, so treat what is written as one input among many. Decisions about changing jobs or committing money need to be made after checking the real-world conditions.
